The European Council formally approved the Artificial Intelligence Act, the world's first comprehensive AI regulation
A report by Caijing, on Tuesday local time, the European Council officially approved the "Artificial Intelligence Act," which is the world's first comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence (AI).In 2021, the European Commission proposed the "Artificial Intelligence Act" with the aim of protecting citizens from the harm of this emerging technology. After multiple rounds of negotiations and consultations, the European Parliament approved the bill in March of this year. As the two major legislative bodies of the European Union, the European Council and the European Parliament play the roles of the upper and lower houses respectively. The EU's "Artificial Intelligence Act" imposes strict transparency obligations on high-risk AI systems, while the requirements for general AI models are lower.With both legislative bodies having approved the bill, it will be published in the official EU Gazette shortly after being signed by the President of the European Parliament and the European Council, and will take effect 20 days after publication.
