Florida Man Pleads Guilty for Participating in Forcount Crypto Ponzi Scheme
Juan Tacuri, a man from Florida, admitted to participating in the telecommunications fraud conspiracy of the Forcount cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme and faces up to 20 years in prison. The Forcount scam was based in Brazil and defrauded Spanish-speaking investors around the world, involving approximately $8.4 million. Tacuri admitted to the crime in the Southern District Court of New York and agreed to return nearly $4 million and real estate to the victims.
Tacuri and his accomplices falsely claimed that Forcount would double investments within six months, but in reality, they only used new investors' money to repay earlier investors and live extravagantly. In 2022, the US Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil lawsuit against Tacuri and three other members. This year, Tacuri will be sentenced by District Judge Analisa Torres.
