Mastercard partners with Mercuryo to launch debit card supporting unmanaged cryptocurrency payments
Payments giant Mastercard has partnered with Mercuryo, a European crypto payments infrastructure provider, to launch a euro-denominated debit card. The card allows users to spend directly on cryptocurrencies stored in unmanaged wallets at more than 100 million merchants that accept Mastercard.
Christian Rau, senior vice president of MasterCard, said the partnership is designed to remove the barriers between blockchain and traditional payments and provide a convenient, reliable and secure payment method for consumers who want to use digital assets. There will be fees for the service, including a €1.60 card issuance fee, a €1 monthly maintenance fee, and a 0.95% withdrawal fee charged by Mercuryo. (Cointelegraph)
