Tether adds $53 million USDT to LINE’s 196 million user network
Tether (CRYPTO:USDT) has launched its stablecoin USDt on the Kaia (CRYPTO:KAIA) blockchain, integrating it into LINE’s ecosystem, which serves over 196 million monthly active users across Asia.
The deployment allows USDt to be used within LINE’s messenger-based Mini DApp platform and self-custodial wallet, enabling users to make payments, conduct cross-border transfers, and participate in decentralised finance (DeFi) activities.
“Through LINE NEXT’s blockchain infrastructure, over 200 million LINE users will now have a straightforward way to engage with digital assets in everyday life,” Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated.
Initial features include mission-based USDt rewards within Mini DApps and peer-to-peer transfers via LINE’s in-app wallet.
Sam Seo, chair of the Kaia DLT Foundation, highlighted Kaia’s low-latency transactions and immediate finality, describing it as “the fastest, easiest, and most reliable” platform for USDt use across LINE, DeFi applications, and centralised exchanges.
LINE Next CEO Youngsu Ko said the integration will establish a “dollar-based gateway” to make Web3 services more accessible to everyday users in the region.
USDt is currently the largest stablecoin by market capitalisation, with over 149.4 billion tokens in circulation according to CoinMarketCap.
Tether continues to expand its supply, minting $1 billion USDt on the Tron (CRYPTO:TRX) network on May 5, raising the total USDt on Tron to $71.4 billion.
By comparison, Ethereum hosts $72.8 billion USDt in circulation.
On May 6, Tether announced a partnership with Chainalysis to integrate compliance and monitoring tools into its tokenisation platform amid increasing regulatory scrutiny.
At the time of reporting, the Tether (USDT) price was $1.00.
