DeFi TVL Is Near $89B But Is Capital Actually Productive?
DeFi TVL sits at $88.81B, while stablecoin market cap stands at $300.36B
Here’s what the data shows:
👉 DEX volume: $4.88B in 24h
👉 Perps volume: $13.26B in 24h
👉 Fees generated: $68.48M in 24h
👉 RWA active AUM: $30.75B
👉 Unlocks: $375M+ over the next 14 days
But look deeper: several major protocols show negative 30-day TVL changes, while Morpho and Uniswap are moving higher.
TVL alone doesn’t tell the full story. Track capital flows, fees, revenue, and token unlocks together to identify where DeFi activity is actually growing.

$GRVT DefiLlama’s new Markets turn its data infrastructure into a live, tradeable signal layer—one that prices both onchain earnings and hack risk in the same venue.
The initiative, launched with prediction-market protocol Trueo on Base, matters because it moves DefiLlama from reporting DeFi’s most important metrics to letting the market price them directly.
How the Markets Work (Briefly)
The current slate covers three broad categories:
Revenue markets – six monthly lines: Hyperliquid, Pump, Uniswap, Aero, Papertrade, and Collector Crypt.
Exploit / bad-debt markets – e.g., whether Aave or Morpho will be exploited in the current month.
Systemic hack markets – weekly markets on whether any +$1M or +$5M hack hits crypto.
Trading uses TYD, Trueo’s USDC-backed stablecoin. One TYD mints a YES share and a NO share; the winning side redeems for 1 TYD. YES and NO each trade in their own Uniswap pool, so a YES price of 0.82 TYD reads as an 82% implied probability.
Resolution is handled by Trueo’s optimistic oracle—bonded proposals, a 12-hour challenge window, and an escalation path—while DefiLlama supplies the underlying data and earns creator fees as market curator.
Onchain Earnings: Crowd-Priced “Earnings Estimates” for DeFi
Crypto has increasingly treated protocol revenue as a fundamental metric, but it has lacked the earnings ritual of traditional equities: consensus estimates, beats, and misses. DefiLlama’s revenue markets fill that gap.
They function like crowd-sourced earnings estimates. Traders price whether a protocol will hit a revenue threshold, and the market page shows the live run-rate alongside the odds. This turns revenue from a backward-looking dashboard number into a forward-looking, tradeable expectation.
Mispricings already appear. In the early days, favorites traded cheap. Collector Crypt needed roughly $200k/day to clear $15M, yet its worst full October day was $218k—while its market opened at only 62%. DefiLlama’s CRO quipped that participants were “selling dollars for $0.94”.
The significance: Revenue markets create a price discovery mechanism for onchain business performance. As liquidity grows, these odds can become a reference point for analysts, treasuries, and anyone who wants to express a view on a protocol’s fundamentals without buying the token.
Hack Risk: Putting a Live Price on DeFi’s Biggest Specter
Exploits remain DeFi’s dominant tail risk, and DefiLlama’s exploit markets quote that risk in real time.
Specific protocol risk: Markets ask whether Aave or Morpho will be exploited this month, giving depositors and traders a market-implied probability for a defined security event.
Systemic hack activity: Weekly +$1M and +$5M hack markets reflect how frequently large incidents occur. DefiLlama’s own hacks database shows that 82% of all five-day stretches over the past 12 months contained a +$1M hack, and **47%** contained a +$5M hack—providing a base rate against which the markets can be judged.
A conditional hedge—not full insurance: The exploit markets let users trade defined outcomes, but they do not automatically reimburse a depositor’s losses. A hedge can fail to match exposure if the incident falls outside the market rules, the window ends before the holding period, or the payout differs from the actual loss. Traders must review each market’s incident definition, evidence sources, event window, liquidity, and settlement terms.
The significance: For the first time, protocol security risk has a continuous, crowd-sourced price. That can help depositors make more informed allocation decisions, give security teams a market-based signal, and allow risk managers to express or offset views on specific protocols—even if the tool is imperfect.
Why the Markets Matter—and What to Keep in Mind
Why they matter:
Data becomes a market. DefiLlama is turning its methodology into a settlement source and a revenue stream (creator fees as curator), aligning its data business with tradeable outcomes.
New information layer. Revenue markets provide forward-looking earnings estimates for onchain businesses; exploit markets provide live risk pricing. Both fill gaps that token prices alone do not capture.
Accessible hedging and speculation. Users can trade defined outcomes on protocol fundamentals and security events without needing to short a token or structure an OTC hedge.
Attention and accountability. Markets force precision: revenue thresholds and exploit definitions must be measurable, and resolution rules matter. That can raise the bar for how the industry talks about “earnings” and “hacks.”
Caveats:
Liquidity is still thin. Early markets have roughly $10k–$25k of liquidity apiece, so prices can move on modest trade size, and displayed quotes are trading prices—not necessarily reliable probabilities or forecasts. YES and NO quotes may not sum to 100%.
Basis risk is real. Exploit markets are conditional hedges, not compensation for losses; the defined event, timeframe, and payout may not match a user’s actual exposure.
Adoption and market quality determine impact. The markets are a new venue; their long-term usefulness depends on deeper liquidity, clearer rules, and sustained participation.
DefiLlama’s Markets matter because they convert the platform’s two most consequential data verticals—protocol revenue and exploit risk—into live, tradeable probabilities. They give onchain earnings a crowd-priced estimate and give hack risk a continuous price, while also exposing the limits of prediction markets as hedging tools.
Whether these venues become a durable part of DeFi’s information infrastructure will depend on liquidity and adoption, but the direction is clear: DefiLlama is no longer just measuring DeFi—it is letting the market price it.

$GRVT ARK Invest’s DeFi Quarterly noted a broad recovery in the third quarter of 2026.
The rebound was spurred largely by tokenized stocks, even though a large part of the activity is still reliant on brokerage distribution and token incentives. There was a drop in Ethereum’s mainnet revenue to ~$40.6 million from $63 million.
Tokenized equities grow into a $50 billion market
The report noted a glaring shift in the location traders choose to put their money. In fact, there was a ninefold increase in the trading of tokenized stocks on decentralized exchanges, hitting the $50 billion mark.
Decentralized exchanges offer users the opportunity to swap assets in the absence of an intermediary. The $50 billion figure amounts to about 9% of spot DEX volume globally, up from ~1% in Q2.
There was an upward trend in the overall spot DEX volume. It saw a 13% increase, hitting the $571 billion mark. This also happened to be its first quarterly gain in 12 months. The ratio of decentralized to centralized exchange spot trading also swung back to 23.3% from 20.3%.
The top venues for tokenized equity trading were BNB Chain (~ $16.5 billion) and Robinhood Chain (~$13.7 billion). The most-traded names were NVIDIA (NVDA) at ~$3.1 billion and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) at ~$2.5 billion.
Robinhood Chain stood out as a clear example of how quickly a consumer brokerage can seed a network. Q1 saw the chain produce around $65 billion in DEX volume and network revenue of about $51 million, almost at par with BNB Chain.
Perp traders hold bigger, fewer positions
Perpetual futures DEXs saw a 76% increase, hitting the $24 billion mark, while trading volume also dropped by 16%. Also, the percentage of decentralized futures dropped to 11.7%.
The trend could be blamed on fewer but larger and longer-held positions, led by Hyperliquid and its HIP-3 markets, according to ARK.
Stablecoins and RWAs rise as supply dips
There was an increase in the amount of stablecoin transactions, with adjusted volumes going up by 16% each quarter to about $781 billion. The average monthly active addresses reached 73 million, a 39% increase from previous figures.

However, the total supply of stablecoins saw a downward trend. A 3% drop took it to about $309 billion, even though USDT and Ethereum (which make up the majority of the market) maintained previous levels.
Another report confirmed the downward trend. Based on the report, there was a growth in stablecoin payments by 45%, hitting the $482 billion point. This occurred through September.
Supply, on the other hand, went up a little by 0.4%.
This trend is as a result of transfers happening more frequently but at a smaller scale.
Real-world asset value in ARK’s data grew 19% to around $39 billion. Lending protocol deposits rose by 51% to $81 billion, with Morpho reaching a 19% deposit share, while active loans grew about 41% to $29 billion.
Ethereum’s yield runs on fresh issuance
Cryptopolitan reported that Ethereum hit record levels in terms of supply, with about 43.8 million staked by the end of Q3. There was some bad news, though, as the average annualized yields dropped from 2.81% to 2.61%. This is due to the fact that rewards are spread across a much larger pool. Almost the entire yield was from new issuance, while about 3% came from MEV and priority fees.
There was a drop in Ethereum’s network revenue, with ETH dropping from $63 million to about $40.6 million in Q3.
Solana set its own staking record at 440.5 million SOL, about 69% of supply, with newly issued tokens making up roughly 90% of returns. Across both chains, the rewards paying stakers are largely inflation, not fees from real demand.
