The Justice Department said the penalty is the largest ever under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. The case involves alleged filing violations related to KKR's acquisitions, rather than claims that the underlying transactions were unlawful. KKR reportedly disputed the DOJ's characterization of its conduct but agreed to settle. The company said outside law firms will reimburse the penalty, according to Reuters.
