GE Vernova to Deliver 400 kV Substation Supporting UK Grid Upgrade

06:57 AM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- GE Vernova (GEV) will deliver a new 400-kV gas-insulated switchgear substation in Chesterfield, England, for National Grid projects, the company said Thursday. Financial details weren't provided. Construction firm Laing O'Rourke selected GE Vernova to deliver the switchgear substation, which will boost transmission capacity, meet rising electricity demand, strengthen grid resilience and facilitate the integration of more renewable energy across England and Wales, the company said. The project is planned to use GE Vernova's SF6-free g3 gas-insulated switchgear technology as part of efforts to reduce emissions from the electricity grid, it added. GE Vernova shares were up 2.9% in premarket activity.
