S&P/TSX Composite Index Down 145 Points Mid-Morning Thursday, With Financials The Worst Performer

10:44 AM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P/TSX Composite Index was down 145 points mid-morning Thursday, extending losses below a recent record high as the financials and healthcare sectors posted the heaviest losses. Financials fell 1.5%, followed by the healthcare sector, which was 1.3% lower. Bank and insurance stocks were lower on last look, with CIBC (CM.TO) slipping 4.5%. The bank had reported a third-quarter earnings beat earlier in the morning. Also lower were TD Bank (TD.TO) and RBC (RY.TO), both of which also reported earnings beats. Information technology, up 2.6%, saw the biggest gains. Technology stocks also rose, boosted by Nvidia's earnings beat and robust revenue guidance.
