Bitcoin Is Moving, But These 3 Altcoins Could Offer the Real Opportunity

  • AVAX: Avalanche combines deep price losses with growing DeFi activity and expanding real-world asset potential.
  • UNI: Uniswap could gain from governance changes that introduce meaningful protocol fee distribution.
  • DOT: Polkadot offers a contrarian setup, with JAM potentially strengthening DOT’s long-term network demand.

Bitcoin often attracts the most attention during major market moves. However, some altcoins can offer deeper opportunities after extended declines. Avalanche, Uniswap, and Polkadot currently fit that profile. Each project faces clear challenges that investors should understand. Still, network growth, governance changes, and technical upgrades could shift market views. These catalysts give the three tokens a different setup. Investors seeking overlooked opportunities may want to watch these altcoins closely.

Avalanche (AVAX)

AVAX trades near $7.50 after losing roughly 70% over the past year. The token also remains more than 90% below the 2021 peak. Such a large decline alone cannot support a bullish case. However, Avalanche shows an interesting gap between price and ecosystem activity. Aave recently deployed V4 on Avalanche and introduced Stable Vaults. The product helps fintech companies offer stablecoin yields without building DeFi systems. That development could bring more institution-linked activity onto Avalanche. The network also retains a strong position in tokenized real-world assets. The sector surpassed $36 billion on-chain during 2026. Avalanche’s subnet design could benefit from continued growth across that market.

Uniswap (UNI)

UNI has struggled despite strong performance across parts of the DeFi sector. The token dropped 18.5% during the week ending August 18. That decline made UNI one of the weaker large-cap DeFi assets. Uniswap remains the leading decentralized exchange by trading volume. However, UNI holders have historically captured limited value from that activity. Fee sharing remains one of DeFi’s biggest unresolved value-accrual debates. That discussion now appears closer to becoming a practical governance issue. A friendlier US regulatory climate could also remove previous barriers. If governance approves protocol fee distribution, UNI could receive a fundamental repricing. Such a move would depend more on actual economics than market hype.

Polkadot (DOT)

DOT remains far below previous cycle highs despite Polkadot’s ambitious development plans. The project continues producing major technical upgrades across the network. However, those improvements have not translated clearly into stronger token demand. The next major catalyst centers on the JAM upgrade. JAM aims to transform the relay chain into a more flexible computing environment. Developers also continue reducing the costs of deploying parachains. Lower deployment costs could make the network more attractive to new projects. A successful transition could also strengthen DOT’s role within the ecosystem. The token could eventually gain recurring demand if other chains rent Polkadot infrastructure. That outcome remains speculative, but the potential creates a strong contrarian angle.

AVAX offers a deep recovery setup backed by expanding ecosystem activity. UNI could benefit from meaningful changes around protocol fees and governance. DOT presents a contrarian opportunity tied to JAM and broader infrastructure adoptionAll three remain risky, so investors should weigh catalysts against the potential downside.

Federal Reserve meeting minutes: All 19 policymakers support a rate hike in September, but reasons vary; most expect further hikes this year, suggesting no urgency in October.

Most officials view a September interest rate hike as an "insurance" measure against stubborn inflation; a minority see it as a necessary step to curb inflation. Overall, there is no indication of a desire to push for consecutive rate hikes. The "New Fed News Agency" emphasized the minutes: "Most participants believe that it may be appropriate to raise interest rates again before the end of the year." Nearly all officials believe inflation remains elevated and the labor market is close to full employment. Many noted that, despite the rise in long-term U.S. Treasury yields, financial conditions are still conducive to economic growth. Some officials believe that AI will boost investment and productivity, but may also contribute to inflation. The minutes revealed that the U.S.-Japan joint intervention in July to support the yen was a U.S. Treasury action, with no Federal Reserve funds used.

100 Million Barrels Shrinkage? Reports Say EU Believes Oil Reserve Release Plan Mainly Fulfills Previous Commitments, Not New Quotas

Last Friday, G7 member countries agreed to release up to 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel reserves. The IEA had announced a plan to release 400 million barrels in March, and as of last Friday, about 75 million barrels had yet to be released. Most EU member states believe that this action is simply fulfilling previous commitments rather than adding new releases. Regarding the earlier-than-scheduled release of diesel stocks emphasized in last week's G7 agreement, EU member states consider it feasible, but on a limited scale.
