On the 9th, a European audit group released a report stating that the EU’s plan to end its reliance on Russian energy is facing setbacks and insufficient funding, with winter gas storage progress seriously lagging behind. On the same day, European natural gas futures prices soared to a three-year high. Currently, the EU’s gas storage facilities are only 67.1% full, far below the 80% level of the same period last year. The EU previously planned to ban all Russian liquefied natural gas imports starting January 1, 2027. Some analysts warn this could heighten the risk of winter energy price spikes for European countries. Also on the 9th, due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and concerns over liquefied natural gas supply, the Dutch Title Transfer Facility natural gas futures price—which serves as Europe’s benchmark—rose as high as €80.99 per megawatt-hour, reaching its highest level since 2023.
