South Korean semiconductor and equipment stocks rose on Tuesday, following gains by their US counterparts.
According to Zhihu Finance APP, South Korean semiconductor and equipment stocks rose on Tuesday, following gains in their US peers. Meta’s (META.US) newly launched AI agent has shown early signs of success, boosting investor sentiment. Data shows Samsung Electronics’ share price climbed as much as 3.5%, and SK Hynix rose up to 3.3%, driving the Korea Composite Stock Price Index up by 2.3%.

Overnight in the US stock market, semiconductor shares closed higher across the board. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index closed up 4.3%, marking its largest one-day gain since August 4. Arm (ARM.US) jumped 17.16%, Intel (INTC.US) rose 12.14%, AMD (AMD.US) climbed 9.95%, Qualcomm (QCOM.US) was up 9.29%, TSMC (TSM.US) advanced 2.42%, ASML (ASML.US) gained 1.87% and Broadcom (AVGO.US) was up 1.60%. AMD also joined the ranks of Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron Technology (MU.US), becoming the fourth US chip company in history to reach a market cap of 1 trillion dollars.
Meta’s Muse AI agent quickly gained market attention just two weeks after launch, signaling positive momentum for AI agents transitioning from tech demonstrations to mainstream products. Muse, officially launched by Meta earlier this month, is positioned as a personal AI agent capable of executing multi-step tasks and connecting to services such as email, calendar, payments, dining, and shopping. Currently, Muse has replaced ChatGPT as the most popular free app on the US iOS platform. According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, since its release on September 8, Muse achieved 730 thousand downloads in about five days and topped the App Store rankings.
Meanwhile, market expectations for diplomatic progress in the Middle East war pushed oil prices lower, further boosting market risk appetite. Reportedly, Trump indicated willingness to meet with Iranian President Pezeshkian, who is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. In addition, there are reports that Iran has conveyed conditions for restarting negotiations to mediators.

Korean retail investors shift to the US in Q3: Sold over 5.5 trillion won of Korean stocks, purchased more than 10 trillion won of US stocks
In the third quarter, Korean retail investors made net purchases of US stocks worth approximately 10.15 trillion won, marking a complete reversal from the previous pattern in the first half of the year, when they made net purchases of nearly 100 trillion won in KOSPI stocks. In September alone, the sell-off amount reached as high as 14.2 trillion won. Analysts attribute this shift to a combination of factors: a sharp decline in KOSPI at high levels, the continued strength of the US stock market driven by AI themes, and the appreciation of the Korean won reducing currency exchange costs.
