(1) South Africa plans to invest up to 44 billion rand (approximately $2.7 billion) to upgrade manganese ore export infrastructure, including the construction of new port terminals and the repair of railway transport lines, in order to enhance its manganese ore export capacity. (2) According to South Africa’s Business Daily, citing pre-qualification documents released by the state-owned logistics company Transnet, Transnet intends to introduce private enterprises to participate in the project development and grant them a 25-year concession, with the partner responsible for building and operating a manganese ore export terminal at Ngqura Port. (3) Of the project funding, about 20 billion rand will be used for the repair and maintenance of railway lines to improve transport capacity from mining areas to the port. (4) South Africa is one of the world’s largest holders of manganese ore resources, with proven reserves accounting for about 70% of the global total. (5) This infrastructure investment aims to alleviate export bottlenecks for South African manganese ore, improve mineral transport efficiency, and further unlock the country’s manganese resource export potential.
