Market Chatter: Barrick Mining Resolves Labor Dispute at Mali Gold Complex

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/28 07:43
03:43 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Barrick Mining (B) has resolved a strike threat at its Loulo-Gounkoto gold complex in Mali after reaching an agreement with unions on outstanding labor issues, Bloomberg reported Sunday. The unions had threatened strikes over overtime payments, expense reimbursements and other labor matters, the report said. The resolution comes after a prolonged dispute between Barrick Mining and Mali's ruling junta that led to the suspension of operations in January 2025 and a subsequent settlement with the government, according to the report. The complex produced about 190,000 ounces of gold in H1, the report said. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally. Korean retail investors shift to the US in Q3: Sold over 5.5 trillion won of Korean stocks, purchased more than 10 trillion won of US stocks

In the third quarter, Korean retail investors made net purchases of US stocks worth approximately 10.15 trillion won, marking a complete reversal from the previous pattern in the first half of the year, when they made net purchases of nearly 100 trillion won in KOSPI stocks. In September alone, the sell-off amount reached as high as 14.2 trillion won. Analysts attribute this shift to a combination of factors: a sharp decline in KOSPI at high levels, the continued strength of the US stock market driven by AI themes, and the appreciation of the Korean won reducing currency exchange costs.
