Dogecoin (DOGE) continued to face downward pressure in Wednesday trading, holding near $0.090 as it recorded a loss of over 5% for the week. The current slide extends a broader retracement phase that began in late September, reflecting mounting bearish sentiment in the leading memecoin.
DOGE market dominance hits all-time low as price nears $0.076 support
Bears tighten grip as sentiment sours
Bearish positioning against DOGE has intensified, with metrics from data analytics firm CoinGlass indicating the long-to-short ratio has dropped to 0.68, marking a one-month low. When this ratio falls below 1.0, it signifies an increase in short contracts relative to long positions, pointing to growing expectations of further price declines.
Additional data from CryptoQuant suggests lingering market stress. An uptick in aggressive selling by large holders, commonly referred to as whales, has contributed to the ongoing weakness across both spot and futures markets.
Technical indicators highlight fading bullish momentum
DOGE is currently trading under its 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), positioned at $0.093, a sign of diminishing short-term strength. Nevertheless, the token remains above its 50-day EMA at $0.088 and 100-day EMA at $0.086, which act as interim support levels.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the daily chart is around 48, nudging the lower threshold for neutral market conditions, while the MACD has turned mildly negative. Both indicators together hint at a loss of upward momentum.
Key support areas lie at $0.088, reinforced by the 50-day EMA and a horizontal price floor. The 100-day EMA at $0.086 offers a secondary cushion. If the price falls through $0.085, analysts warn that a drop toward $0.070 could quickly develop.
To reverse the bearish trajectory, DOGE needs to reclaim the $0.093 resistance level. Further upside faces additional barriers at $0.102, a region known for heavy selling in previous sessions.
The analyst observed that DOGE is forming a structure similar to its last corrective phase, anchored by repeat visits to the same swing-high region.
Always prepare for the SSL Sweep during an uptrend. DOGE is now forming a structure very similar to the last one, with lower highs repeatedly testing the prior swing-high zone. Price is being pushed back toward the recent low, which serves as a key level for potential reversal or further decline.
According to Trader Tardigrade, if DOGE fails to hold at its recent swing low, it may remain locked in a sideways trading range. A hold, however, could trigger another attempt at higher levels.
Daily chart patterns and Fibonacci support
DOGE’s daily chart reveals an ascending broadening wedge formation, a technical structure characterized by widening price swings between two upwardly sloping trendlines. The upper limit of this wedge projects toward $0.11, while the lower support boundary sits around $0.090 to $0.092. If this support breaks, traders expect an accelerated decline toward $0.0871.
This projected level coincides with the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement of the recent rally, suggesting that a move below $0.087 could prompt further losses. A deeper decline could touch $0.0828, the 0.618 Fibonacci level, while the $0.076 to $0.077 region aligns with a potential 20% drop from current prices and the 0.786 retracement.
The RSI has slipped to 57, further highlighting decreasing bullish momentum. A decisive breakout above $0.1055, surpassing the wedge’s upper limit, would be necessary to invalidate the bearish outlook. Otherwise, the threat of additional selling remains pronounced.
Memecoin market share crashes to new lows
CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost pointed out that DOGE’s weakness reflects a broader trend as the market cap of memecoins compared to other altcoins has fallen to just 2.7%, marking an all-time low. This shift highlights a deepening divergence between memecoins and the rest of the altcoin sector, as new launches have diluted overall liquidity and trading focus.
Dogecoin exchanged hands near $0.0952 on October 6, but failed to sustain gains above $0.10 after its late-September advance. As of the most recent trading session, DOGE changed hands at $0.09085, down 3.93% over the preceding 24 hours according to real-time data.
The dramatic decline in memecoin dominance against altcoins underlines mounting market pressure on sector leaders like DOGE. The continued launch of new tokens has fragmented the market, making it harder for DOGE to maintain past highs.
