Tech Stocks Extend Gains After Yesterday's Anthropic Rally -- WSJ

Some of the effects from yesterday's Anthropic rally are extending into day two: Tech stocks are up, pushing the Nasdaq more than 1% higher.
Among the top gainers are chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks. CoreWeave is reclaiming some of the value it lost earlier this month to concerns about the massive debt load that comes with the AI buildout.
Meanwhile, Brent crude prices are slipping. They remain elevated at about $110 a barrel, as attacks continue on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf.
Also in focus today: Israelis are voting in parliamentary elections that could determine whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gets to remain in power. The outcome could be consequential for the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Netanyahu has said Israel must finish the job of overthrowing the Iranian regime, whereas his opponent, Gadi Eisenkot, has said he favors turning military victories into diplomatic achievements.

JPMorgan Private Bank believes that before interest rates reach their peak, it will be difficult to confirm a bottom for gold prices. Thin liquidity coupled with expectations of further rate hikes this year present significant downward pressure. Chinese consumers are increasing their physical gold holdings, providing some support; however, Indian buyers are delaying festival purchases due to expectations that the price decline has not yet ended, substantially weakening demand-side support. For gold prices to regain upward momentum, multiple conditions need to coincide, including a drop in oil prices, cooling inflation, and a weaker US dollar.
