Despite the fact that both the US September Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) rose more than expected, AI infrastructure construction has not showed obvious signs of slowing, and energy prices remain high, market participants still expect the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates in the target range of 3.75% to 4.00% on Wednesday. Previously, several senior Federal Reserve officials expressed in speeches that there is no urgency to raise rates this month. Oxford Economics noted: “When Williams and Jefferson made these remarks, the unexpected rise in inflation data had not yet occurred. We do not believe their statements served as a channel for Waller to indirectly convey his views to the market, as might have happened under previous Fed Chairs.” If the Federal Reserve decides to keep rates unchanged, officials such as Cleveland Fed President Mester and Dallas Fed President Logan may cast dissenting votes. Both have previously stated that monetary policy still needs to tighten further.
