Eric Yuan, the founder and CEO of Zoom, is confident that AI assistants will eventually enable us to reduce the number of days we work each week. During his appearance at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Monday, Yuan highlighted how Zoom is integrating AI, including a “digital twin” function that allows an AI-generated avatar to communicate on your behalf.
Earlier this year, Yuan showcased his AI avatar during an investor earnings call, illustrating the technology’s capabilities and its potential to redefine how we interact, according to his remarks.
At the event, Yuan stressed the significant amount of time spent discussing AI and identifying the most suitable products to launch.
When questioned about his investment focus, he replied, “AI, AI, and AI.” Zoom dedicates hours to strategic planning around AI, as the company sees it as a key driver for workplace transformation.
Yuan also pointed out that AI companions could serve many purposes beyond simply standing in for users during video meetings. He described a possible future where two executives negotiate a contract via Zoom.
Rather than spending extended periods on calls, these executives could have their digital twins collaborate on the agreement beforehand, Yuan explained.
He further mentioned that AI could help manage emails by reviewing messages and highlighting those that require attention or a reply.
Additionally, Yuan envisions AI improving Zoom’s comprehensive set of tools, such as its online whiteboard and collaborative document features.
“Currently, I have to manually focus on each of these tools to complete my tasks. In the future, AI will take on that role,” Yuan commented.
“With this shift, working five days a week may no longer be necessary. In five years, we could be working just three or four days weekly. That’s the objective,” he added.
