WIRED reveals the inner workings of a crypto scam operation in Laos, illegally profiting tens of billions of dollars annually

Foresight News reported, according to WIRED, that its latest podcast episode revealed internal operational details of crypto scam hubs located in the "Golden Triangle" region of Laos. These hubs primarily use investment scams such as "pig-butchering" schemes, illegally profiting hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Whistleblower "Red Bull" disclosed that scam organizations use deepfake videos and AI chatbots to fabricate identities, luring victims to invest on fake crypto trading platforms. The report pointed out that such hubs are also involved in serious human trafficking issues, where workers are often lured by promises of high-paying jobs, have their passports confiscated, and are forced to engage in scam activities for up to 16 hours a day.
