Moldova's January inflation rate falls to an 18-month low

⑴ Moldova's annual inflation rate dropped to 4.8% in January 2026, down from the previous value of 6.8%. ⑵ This is the lowest level since July 2024. ⑶ Non-food price inflation slowed from 2.3% in December to 1.8%, mainly due to a deeper decline in fuel and lubricant prices. ⑷ Service price inflation also slowed from 14.9% to 7.2%, reflecting lower costs for public housing services and public catering. ⑸ In contrast, food prices continued to rise, with the increase expanding from 5.6% to 6.2%. ⑹ The rise in food prices was mainly driven by accelerated increases in the prices of meat and meat products, eggs, vegetables, and vegetable oils. ⑺ Month-on-month, the consumer price index rose by 0.9% in January, unchanged from the previous month.
