Survey shows that more than 2,500 types of food in the Japanese market will increase in price in April

Golden Ten Data reported on March 29 that a latest survey shows more than 2,500 types of food in the Japanese market will see price increases in April this year. In addition, starting in April, the prices of electricity, gas, and daily necessities in the country will also be raised, potentially increasing the cost of living for residents. Teikoku Databank surveyed 195 major food and beverage manufacturers across Japan, asking about their intentions to raise prices. The results show that in April, 2,516 kinds of food will have price hikes on the Japanese market, including instant noodles, beverages, and cooking oils. This is the largest number of food items seeing price increases in a single month since the start of 2026 in Japan. Among them, the maximum increase for instant noodles is 11%, while for alcoholic beverages it is around 20%. In addition to food, from April, electricity and gas prices in many regions of Japan will generally rise, and daily necessities such as facial tissues and toilet paper will also become more expensive.
