Multiple media outlets reported on the 11th that Oliver Jankovec, Director General of Airports Council International Europe, recently wrote to the EU Commissioner responsible for Energy and Tourism affairs, stating that as the summer tourism peak approaches, the supply of aviation fuel in Europe is becoming "increasingly worrying." If the Strait of Hormuz does not resume navigation in a "significant and stable" way within three weeks, the EU "will face a systemic shortage of aviation fuel," disrupting air transport and airport operations and "seriously undermining the European economy." The letter states that traditional aviation fuel prices may remain high in the medium to long term, and "relying solely on market forces and self-regulation is not feasible." The EU should collectively procure aviation fuel, temporarily relax relevant restrictions and regulations on imported aviation fuel, and increase support for sustainable aviation fuels.
