Golden Ten Data reported on April 17 that Counterpoint Research stated that due to cost pressures, price increases, and weak demand, India's smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2026 dropped by 3% year-on-year, reaching their lowest level in six years. The average price of more than 80 smartphone models rose by 15%, with expectations of a further increase of 15% to 20% in the second quarter. Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak said: "In the short term, India's smartphone market will continue to face pressure, and a double-digit decline is expected in the second quarter of 2026."
