Bloomberg Analyst: May Be Time to Retire ‘Sell in May’ Strategy, S&P 500 ETF Only Lower in 2022 in Past Decade
BlockBeats News, April 29th, Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas wrote that perhaps it's time to completely retire the "Sell in May" adage. This strategy originated from the 19th century London affluent class leaving the trading markets during the summer, but it is no longer applicable in today's 24-hour algorithm-driven market.
Data shows that the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) has seen gains in 25 out of the past 33 "May to October" periods, with only 2022 seeing a decline in the last decade.
