Hedge Fund Assets Reach Record High as US Stocks Hit New Peaks
On May 2, Wall Street showcased a prosperous scene once again, with the stock market reaching new highs and investors' risk appetite rebounding—alternative investment strategies also found success. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indices both closed at historic highs this month, driven by the earnings performance of large tech companies and a strong earnings forecast from Apple. While there is optimism in traditional asset markets, a different scenario is unfolding in the realm of alternative investment strategies. According to data from Hedge Fund Research, hedge funds attracted $45 billion in the first quarter of this year, marking the highest inflow for two quarters since 2007 and pushing the total assets in the industry to a historic high of $5.2 trillion. Additionally, data from Societe Generale indicates that trend-following quantitative funds have seen an approximate 10% year-to-date increase in May, outperforming the US stock market.
