Amazon has announced a multi-billion-dollar investment in Missouri to build a data center campus, expecting to create over 400 long-term jobs.
BlockBeats News, June 16th, Amazon announced that it will invest billions of dollars to build an advanced data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri, USA. It is expected to create over 400 full-time data center jobs, thousands of construction jobs, and bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue.
As part of the commitment, Amazon will invest over $7 million in the local community, including $3 million for emergency dispatch services, over $1 million for the construction of the Montgomery County Exhibition Center Community Events Center, and establish a community fund to support local projects.
Amazon stated that the project will drive road and water infrastructure upgrades and will collaborate with the local utility company, Ameren Missouri, to ensure that the additional electricity costs of the data center will not be passed on to other residential users.
In terms of sustainability, Amazon mentioned that the data center will use natural air cooling about 90% of the time, with water cooling not exceeding 7% of the year, and the water consumption at full load will be less than 0.1% of the local aquifer's annual recharge volume. The company also plans to reuse water resources through rainwater collection and recycling systems and will work with Arable Labs to save approximately 100 million gallons of water annually in the local watershed through a smart agriculture project.
Amazon stated that since 2017, the company has employed over 10,000 people in Missouri and has contributed over $9 billion to the local economy's GDP. This data center investment will further support the construction of cloud computing and AI infrastructure.
