Omani Foreign Minister: Does Not Support Charging Fees for the Hormuz Strait Passage

Badr stated that Oman has always been committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and free navigation environment in the Strait of Hormuz for all parties. He pointed out that Oman and Iran have reached a consensus in the existing dialogue, and any future arrangements regarding the Strait of Hormuz must be conducted within the framework of international law.
In response to external concerns about toll fees, Badr stated that Oman does not support charging tolls to passing ships. However, he did not rule out the possibility of discussing maritime service-related mechanisms. Badr said that discussions could focus on enhancing navigation safety, improving maritime accident emergency response capabilities, and preventing marine pollution, drawing on practices related to other straits. He stated that such arrangements would be developed through consultations with countries and shipping companies using the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to enhance maritime services, ensure navigation safety, and not impose new burdens on global trade.
