Barclays acquires its headquarters building in Canary Wharf for £750 million

Golden Ten Data June 30|Barclays announced on June 30 the acquisition of its global headquarters in Canary Wharf, London for £750 million (US$993 million). According to the statement, Barclays purchased the building from Canary Wharf Group by signing a 999-year lease agreement. The office building, located at 1 Churchill Place, has a floor area of 1 million square feet and has served as Barclays' global headquarters since 2005; the current lease was originally set to expire in 2039. Barclays stated in the announcement that the deal is expected to have negligible impact on Barclays’ earnings and Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio.
