Zcash launches Zakura node, aiming to support 50,000 transactions per second

According to Odaily, Zcash has launched a new full node, Zakura, maintained by a team independent of the Zcash Foundation. It is released as a lightweight, fast-sync branch of Zebra and is compatible with the legacy zcashd client. This client will reach end of life on July 18.

Zakura is one component of Zcash’s scaling efforts, working alongside Project Tachyon and private information retrieval research. The goal is to increase network throughput to the level of Visa and Mastercard by reducing verification data and eliminating wallet performance bottlenecks.

Zakura also supports the Ironwood (NU6.3) upgrade, which will be activated on July 28. This upgrade introduces the turnstile mechanism to limit withdrawals from the Orchard shielded pool and control any counterfeit ZEC that may result from a long-term soundness bug.
