Chainlink whale withdraws $13.2 million in LINK, price holds above $8.18 support

A prominent Chainlink holder has withdrawn 1.58 million LINK tokens, valued at approximately $13.2 million, from multiple exchanges within a one-week period. Despite this significant accumulation, LINK’s price action remained subdued, with the token managing to stay above a key support level as buyers and sellers assessed the next move.

Whale withdrawal signals accumulation but not breakout

Large-scale acquisitions by cryptocurrency whales, or individuals with substantial holdings, often attract close scrutiny since such moves typically reduce the amount of circulating supply on exchanges, lowering immediate selling pressure. In this case, the wallet now holds 1.58 million LINK, equating to about $13.3 million at current prices. Still, despite this reduction in available supply, the market response remained measured, and LINK did not stage a notable rally.

Market observers noted that LINK’s price traded above a fragile short-term support, reflecting hesitant demand and moderate participation from buyers. Broader spot market interest and a convincing increase in trading volume are still lacking, keeping expectations for a rapid surge in check.

Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network connecting blockchains with external data, widely used in decentralized finance protocols.

Mini dictionary: Whale – A term for a person or entity controlling a large amount of cryptocurrency, often significant enough to influence market trends.

Trader positioning and risk of liquidation

In the derivatives market, traders showed a clear bullish tilt, with data indicating 69.8% of positions were long, and 30.2% were short. This led to a long-to-short ratio of 2.31, suggesting a crowded long trade where many participants expect further price gains.

However, such optimistic positioning can also create risks. If LINK’s price declines suddenly, highly leveraged long holders could be forced to close their trades, accelerating downward pressure through liquidations. The outlook for LINK now depends not only on new accumulation but also on the ability of bulls to hold critical support levels during any rapid market moves.

Many derivatives traders are heavily weighted toward long positions, but if LINK dips below support, it could trigger forced liquidations that temporarily increase selling pressure.

Support, resistance, and market indicators

Technical analysis pointed to $8.18 as a crucial price floor for LINK. Price action above this support keeps the near-term outlook constructive, while a decisive breakdown could lead to further losses. Additional technical signals offered a mixed picture. The MACD indicator stayed above its signal line, generally a bullish sign, though its narrowing histogram signalled waning momentum. The Parabolic SAR, another technical tool, recently moved above the price near $8.75, indicating that short-term sellers regained some control.

Indicator or Level Value Implication
Whale accumulation 1.58M LINK Reduced liquid supply
Main support $8.18 Bulls defending price floor
Liquidation cluster $8.215 Concentration of leveraged positions
Parabolic SAR Near $8.75 Sellers retake short-term momentum
Long/short ratio 2.31 Bullish trade looks crowded

These metrics suggest the market is supported but not primed for an immediate breakout. Instead, LINK may react more to shifts in overall demand and spot trade participation in the coming sessions.

Key liquidity zone at $8.215

A liquidation heatmap indicated the largest leveraged exposure lies just above $8.215, involving approximately 164,670 tokens. This price cluster can act as a magnet for volatility when forced trades are closed. Maintaining levels above this cluster could stabilize LINK and lay groundwork for a rebound, but a clear breach may fuel additional selling before buyers return.

Price is likely to remain sensitive around the $8.18 to $8.215 region, where both technical support and significant leveraged positions converge.

With momentum indicators showing a slower market and heavy long exposure increasing potential for volatility, LINK’s short-term trajectory hinges on buyers’ ability to protect these narrow support zones.
