Triple positive catalysts resonate, Boeing surges more than 8% in a single day
On August 3rd, Boeing's share price surged nearly 8% in a single day, driven by three simultaneous positive factors: BNP Paribas upgraded its rating from "underperform" to "outperform"; the FAA officially certified the 737 Max 7, raising expectations for delivery of 282 orders; and Trump announced the cancellation of a strike plan against Iran, causing a sharp drop in oil prices and valuation recovery in the aviation sector.
On August 3rd local time, Boeing's share price surged dramatically, with three positive developments occurring simultaneously. These factors pushed the stock up by nearly 8%, making it one of the day's best-performing stocks on the market.

For Boeing, this rally was the result of regulatory certification progress, a major ratings upgrade from a leading institution, and an improved macro environment. The company had just released better-than-expected free cash flow data the previous Tuesday, and the market's confidence in its transformation process is steadily building.
The sharp decline in oil prices was one of the key catalysts for this rebound. On Sunday, Trump announced the cancellation of planned military action against Iran and sought to reopen negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a sharp fall in oil prices. At the same time, 10-year U.S. Treasury yields dropped by about 6 basis points, signaling a significant improvement in overall market risk appetite.
BNP Paribas Upgrades Boeing by Two Notches, FAA Officially Certifies 737 Max 7
Another major piece of news on Monday came from the sell-side research sector.
Analysts at BNP Paribas upgraded Boeing from "underperform" to "outperform" and simultaneously raised the target price to $300, completing the rare feat of a two-notch upgrade.
This analyst had maintained a bearish stance on Boeing since November 2025. This complete reversal sends a strong signal to the market and provides a chance for other cautious investors to reconsider the stock.
On the regulatory front, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officially certified the Boeing 737 Max 7 on Monday, ending the model's long approval wait.
According to a report sent by Jefferies analysts to clients on Monday, Boeing currently holds orders for 282 Max 7s, accounting for 6% of the Max series' total orders.
With the Max 7 now certified, market attention is turning to the 737 Max 10. Boeing stated that Max 10 certification is expected to follow, but deliveries of both models are only expected to begin next year.
Nevertheless, Jefferies believes this development adds credibility to CEO Kelly Ortberg's company transformation narrative and free cash flow growth targets. The better-than-expected free cash flow data disclosed last Tuesday further strengthened this expectation.
Falling Oil Prices Boost the Aviation Industry, Overall Market Sentiment Improves
The logic behind falling oil prices boosting Boeing lies in their impact on airline profitability.
The significant drop in oil prices on Monday created a phase of valuation recovery across the entire aviation supply chain.

Lower jet fuel costs help improve airlines' profit margins, reducing the likelihood that they will delay or cancel aircraft orders, which in turn has strengthened aerospace stocks more broadly.
Boeing's rally is part of a broader market rebound.
Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, and other large-scale cloud computing companies continued their gains on Monday, posting strong performances for a second straight trading day.
Investors responded positively to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's explanation of the expected returns and cash flow timeline regarding artificial intelligence spending.
On the macroeconomic front, falling oil prices drove interest rates down, supporting valuations. Overall market risk appetite was noticeably boosted early in the week, with the S&P 500 index just a step away from its highest closing level in history.
