SpaceXAI has launched Grok Bot, which operates similarly to an AI agent team.

According to Zhitong Finance APP, on August 11, SpaceX (SPCX.US)'s AI division, SpaceXAI, officially launched its enterprise-level AI agent product Grok Bot—a team of "always-online AI colleagues who can log into your tools and complete real work like real co-workers." This release follows its $60 billion all-stock acquisition of the AI programming tool Cursor, marking SpaceXAI's comprehensive offensive in the enterprise AI agent market.

This new AI software, positioned as a "digital colleague," signals the evolution of AI assistants from passive Q&A tools to persistent intelligent agent teams capable of proactively executing tasks in the digital world.

Grok Bot: A "Hands-on" Worker, Not Just a "Mouth" Answering Questions

Grok Bot is not a traditional chatbot but an always-online team composed of AI agents. Unlike ChatGPT or Claude, which rely on user-initiated queries, Grok Bot is designed to log into users’ commonly used applications and websites to independently complete actual work tasks.

Key Feature Highlights

Persistence and Autonomy: Each Bot owns an independent computing environment and can continue working even after the user closes their laptop. The Bot will proactively contact the user only after completing a task or when a decision is needed.

Cross-App Collaboration: Bots can independently send messages, share context information, and autonomously assign tasks to each other, just like human colleagues. Users can "place them into group chats and let them collaborate on their own."

Learning and Memory: While users perform tasks, they can have Bots "follow the steps." The Bot will observe and remember the user's preferred working methods, continuously improving as the collaboration deepens.

SpaceXAI revealed that Grok Bot was initially developed as an internal prototype but quickly gained popularity within the company. Different teams—ranging from sales and marketing, office daily operations, to bug fixes—all created their own Bots.

Pricing and Availability: The "$120/Month Digital Colleague"

Grok Bot is entering the testing phase starting now, initially available for SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra, and Cursor Premium Teams subscription users. It supports macOS, Windows, Linux, and iOS platforms.

Pricing strategy: Team edition, $120 per seat per month; individual edition, $200 per month. Enterprise customers can now join the waiting list. Judging by its pricing, Grok Bot targets the enterprise productivity tools market rather than standard consumer-level AI assistants.

$60 Billion Acquisition of Cursor: The "Key Piece" to Complete the AI Programming Puzzle

The rapid rollout of Grok Bot owes much to SpaceXAI’s "sky-high" acquisition in June this year. On June 16, 2026, SpaceX signed a final merger agreement with Anysphere, the developer of AI programming tool Cursor, in an all-stock transaction valuing Cursor at up to $60 billion. The merger is expected to be completed in Q3 2026.

Cursor has become a core player in the tech industry's "vibe coding" wave—as the demand for tools capable of writing and debugging software code surges, the sector is experiencing explosive growth. Founded in 2022 by four MIT dropouts, the company achieved $1 billion in annualized revenue in only about 18 months—Slack took seven years to reach the same milestone. By the time of acquisition, Cursor had surpassed 1 million daily active users, with clients covering over half of Fortune 500 enterprises. Its annualized revenue exceeded $4 billion just before SpaceX's IPO.

This acquisition had an immediate effect on SpaceXAI's model capabilities. On July 9, SpaceXAI launched its first flagship model, Grok 4.5, co-trained with Cursor, signaling deep technical integration between the two firms.

Grok 4.5: Not Competing for “Strongest,” But Leading on Cost-Performance

The release strategy for Grok 4.5 reflects Musk’s pragmatic shift in the AI competition—no longer blindly chasing the “strongest” in terms of parameters and benchmarks but focusing on practicality and cost-effectiveness.

Efficiency and Cost Data:

Token Efficiency Doubled: Compared to similar leading models, Grok 4.5's token efficiency increased by at least twofold. In the SWE Bench Pro programming tasks, it required an average of only 16,000 tokens to solve a problem, while Opus 4.8 (max) required 67,000.

Extremely Low Cost: Pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. In Grok Build scenarios, the per-task cost is around $2.5, while Fable 5 in Claude Code costs nearly $12.

Practicality First: Musk candidly admits Grok 4.5 has performance gaps with the top models but emphasizes, "Most tasks do not require top-tier model capabilities."

Grok 4.6 Coming Soon: Full SpaceX Data Integration for Training

At the first SpaceX earnings call on August 4, Musk previewed that Grok 4.6 would be released in the week of August 12, followed by Grok 4.7 in the subsequent weeks.

More notably, Musk announced a major strategic decision: all data generated by SpaceX since its founding will be integrated into Grok’s training. This means the Grok series will be trained on SpaceX’s massive proprietary data in aerospace engineering, satellite communications, rocket launches, and other fields, possibly providing an edge over competitors.

Strategic Background: From xAI Dissolution to SpaceXAI's AI Empire

The launch of Grok Bot is the latest result of a series of AI strategic integrations by Musk since 2026. In February 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI outright, with the post-merger entity valued at $1.25 trillion. On May 6, Musk officially announced the dissolution of xAI and its integration into SpaceX as a new AI sub-division, unified under the name SpaceXAI. Analysis suggests merging xAI into SpaceX helps Musk centralize management of rockets, satellites, AI infrastructure, and data platforms, and transfer AI-related risks to SpaceX’s larger corporate governance structure.

The launch of Grok Bot coincides with SpaceX's first earnings report post-IPO. On August 4, SpaceX’s Q2 2026 earnings report showed: AI business revenue reached $2.56 billion, up 247% year-on-year and 213% quarter-on-quarter. The AI business mainly benefitted from leasing data center capacity and computing power to competitors like Anthropic and Google, contributing $1.6 billion in a single quarter. The AI division posted an operating loss of $1.26 billion.

The explosive growth in AI revenue, coupled with massive losses, sketches SpaceXAI’s dual reality: high demand but enormous infrastructure investment. During the earnings call, Musk stated that SpaceX’s computing power capacity would reach 2 GW by the end of this year, and next year "will be closer to 10 GW rather than 5 GW."

In terms of computing layout, SpaceXAI previously reached a major agreement with Anthropic—to use the full computing power of the Colossus 1 supercluster, containing over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, to enhance Claude’s code generation ability. SpaceX stated that the compute needed to train and run the next-generation AI system already exceeds the limits of terrestrial power, land, and cooling, and is advancing the vision of orbital data centers.

Competitive Landscape

Grok Bot enters a market that has already reached a white-hot level of competition. Anthropic introduced the "computer usage" feature as early as 2024, followed by developer-facing Claude Code and white-collar-focused Claude Cowork agents. OpenAI enabled Codex to control other applications in April and launched Workspace Agents capable of connecting to third-party apps.

Grok Bot's debut marks the official transition of the AI agent race from "lab demos" to "office scenario rollouts." As SpaceXAI puts it: "Bots are AI colleagues who can do real work for you. They log into your tools, use them like you, and come back with completed work."

Grok Bot’s distinctive advantage is its positioning as a “persistent digital colleague”—not just answering questions but continuously executing work.

Behind this differentiation is Musk’s unique perspective on the AI agent market. In the June earnings call, he mentioned that SpaceX has deployed “dozens” of top Starlink and Starship engineers to help transform the Grok model. Bringing aerospace engineering talent into AI development highlights SpaceX’s resource advantage and hints at Musk’s strategic prioritization of the AI agent business.

From the perspective of capital investment, SpaceXAI’s ambition is equally astounding. SpaceX’s AI capital expenditure doubled from $7.7 billion in Q1 2026 to $15.8 billion in Q2. For the full year 2026, xAI-related spending reached $23.5 billion, accounting for 82.7% of SpaceX’s total expenditure of $28.4 billion.
