Lyn Alden says $72,660 Bitcoin rally may attract new wave of buyers

Macroeconomist and author Lyn Alden stated that sentiment toward Bitcoin has been subdued in recent months, but the cryptocurrency now faces few remaining downside risks.

Market sentiment shifts as speculative traders exit

In an interview with CNBC, Alden explained that so-called “fast money” investors have largely exited the Bitcoin market. She pointed to a reduction in near-term selling pressure, noting market participants do not expect significant disposals from institutional treasury strategies at this stage.

Alden remarked, “By almost every metric, Bitcoin is near the low end of its valuation and sentiment range.” She added that earlier this week, Bitcoin surged more than 6% within 24 hours and recently traded at $72,660, briefly peaking at $72,890 on Thursday.

Even relatively small upside gains at this point can attract new types of buyers. Once people see that the chart doesn’t look bad anymore, you can get technical traders coming back in; if you get further momentum, say months from now, you could get more momentum traders back in.

Alden emphasized that smaller upward movements could create favorable dynamics. She said fresh buying interest may return if charts improve, with both technical and momentum traders entering the market as confidence builds.

Political factors support recent rally

Bitcoin’s rally coincided with President Trump hosting a meeting at the White House with executives from leading crypto industry firms. During the meeting, Trump called on lawmakers to pass the long-awaited crypto market structure bill, known as the Clarity Act.

President Trump described the Clarity Act as a “very, very powerful” legislative measure, encouraging lawmakers to move the measure forward.

The crypto sector has closely followed the progress of this legislation. The House of Representatives approved the Clarity Act last year, but the bill has remained stalled in 2026. Lawmakers had hoped for an August vote; the process is now expected to advance in September.

Trump, the current US president, has increasingly engaged with the crypto industry, holding discussions with executives as regulatory uncertainty remains a prominent topic.

Price data and macroeconomic context

Alden acknowledged that Bitcoin is still navigating uncertain terrain but maintained that “hard assets” like Bitcoin, which she believes are “under-owned,” could prove resilient in the long run.

Bitcoin reached a record high of $126,080 in October before entering a bear market in 2026, partly due to a sector-wide shift as traders allocated greater capital to artificial intelligence-related technology equities. The ongoing indication from the Federal Reserve that interest rates are unlikely to decline soon has also weighed on risk assets such as Bitcoin.

Alden maintained that while Bitcoin is not “out of the woods yet,” she expects “under-owned” hard assets such as Bitcoin to outperform over the longer term.
