FIL price climbed toward $1.25 as traders positioned ahead of the supply change.
Filecoin news is drawing fresh market attention as a major token supply change approaches. On October 15, the six-year vesting schedules for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation are expected to end, removing a substantial source of new FIL issuance. The change could reduce annual gross issuance from roughly 89 million FIL to about 21–22 million. Meanwhile, Filecoin price has rallied toward $1.25, putting the $1.30–$1.40 resistance zone in focus. The key question is whether lower supply can support another leg higher or whether traders will take profits after the recent rally.
Why October 15 Matters for Filecoin (FIL)?
Filecoin’s six-year vesting schedule for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation is set to end on October 15. Together, these allocations have contributed roughly 66.7 million FIL in annual vesting, on top of approximately 21.7 million FIL from block rewards.
Once vesting ends, gross annual issuance is expected to fall from nearly 89 million FIL to around 22 million FIL, a reduction of roughly 75%. This removes a major source of scheduled new supply and could ease persistent selling pressure if demand remains steady.
However, lower issuance does not guarantee a price rally. The change reduces the flow of newly released tokens; it does not remove existing FIL from circulation or prevent current holders from selling. Traders will be watching whether the supply reduction is accompanied by sustained buying and stronger demand for Filecoin’s storage services.
Filecoin Price Analysis: Can FIL Break Above $1.40?
Filecoin price is trading near $1.24, after recovering from its summer lows around $0.70. Filecoin’s recent price action shows a rounding bottom shaped recovery, with the token price approaching a resistance zone between $1.30 and $1.40. This is the immediate test for the ongoing rally.
A daily close above $1.30 would strengthen the breakout case and bring $1.40 into focus. Clearing the upper end of that zone could open the way for a further advance, although the chart would need to establish support above resistance to confirm the move.
On the downside, failure to break through $1.30–$1.40 could trigger profit-taking. The $1.00–$1.08 area contains nearby moving-average levels, while $0.90 is another level to watch if selling intensifies. The broader support zone around $0.68–$0.72 remains important to the recovery structure.
Will the 75% Supply Cut Drive FIL Higher?
Filecoin’s issuance reduction provides a significant change in its token economics, but the price reaction will depend on demand and market positioning. A sustained break above $1.30 could put $1.40 within reach as the October 15 deadline approaches. If FIL fails at resistance, traders may look toward $1.00–$1.08 for support.
