Bitcoin’s volatility is increasing, indicating less stability in the market. The index went from its previous closing value of 37.93 to 38.37. Before this spike occurred, readings were stuck in a very narrow range. As such, they varied little, from 37.95 through 38.10.
That indicates there wasn’t much movement in how turbulent the market was. That jump indicates that traders may be responding to new developments in the market. Therefore, they have the opportunity for larger price movements than seen recently.
As noted above, rising volatility increases the opportunities for either large gains or even greater losses, especially when using leverage. Still, despite the increase in the volatility, the indicator doesn’t indicate if buyers or sellers have the upper hand.
The direction of Bitcoin’s [BTC] next move will likely be determined by whether recent increases in volatility accompany additional buying or additional selling momentum.
Bitcoin tests $80K support
Interestingly, Bitcoin’s rising volatility now coincides with mounting price pressure, with BTC struggling to defend support after repeated failed recovery attempts. Sellers rejected prices near $85,000.
Afterward, the sellers drove the price lower than $82,000, which was a support level that contained numerous pullbacks during October.
The decline suggests buyers could no longer absorb the available supply, hence accelerating the decline toward $80,000.
Although the price did temporarily fall below that psychologically important barrier and subsequently recover back to approximately $80,417, showing that some purchasing power still exists.
A rebound to that point has yet to create a more sustainable recovery structure. Should volatility continue to grow and should $80,000 break down again, then Bitcoin could see continued declines to $77,000-$75,000.
On the other hand, recovery of $82,000 would indicate that sellers are losing control of the situation.
Crypto liquidations reach $550M
Bitcoin’s struggle to defend $80,000 is exposing leveraged traders to growing losses as market volatility intensifies. The decline of price has resulted in over $549.55 million dollars in total crypto liquidation for the past 24 hours as of press time.
Long positions have accounted for $466.76 million of those dollar liquidations. This disparity indicates that all the losses due to declining price were borne by bullish traders (longs) and may result in additional selling after exchanges close leveraged trades.
Liquidations of $176.16 million on Bitcoin account for 32% of the total. Meanwhile, Ethereum [ETH] liquidations account for an additional 29%, or $161.51 million.
However, the 12-hour data reveals a temporary reversal, with $30.51 million in short liquidations exceeding $17.18 million in long losses. These opposing pressures suggest unstable positioning, leaving markets vulnerable to further sharp moves and cascading liquidations.
Final Summary
-
Bitcoin volatility rose to 38.37, signaling a higher risk of sharp price swings.
-
BTC faces $80,000 support as crypto liquidations reach $549.55M, mostly from long positions.
