AutoZone Surpasses Q2 Earnings Forecasts, Sees Revenue Growth

AutoZone Inc. (AZO) announced earnings of $27.63 per share for its fiscal 2026 second quarter, ending February 14, 2026. This result exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $27.10 per share, though it was slightly below the $28.29 per share reported in the same period last year.

The company’s net sales climbed 8.2% year-over-year to reach $4.27 billion, just under the consensus projection of $4.31 billion.

Highlights from the Quarter

  • Domestic commercial sales reached $1.15 billion, up from $1.05 billion a year earlier. Comparable sales at U.S. stores open at least a year increased by 3.4%.
  • Gross profit improved to $2.24 billion compared to $2.13 billion in the prior year, while operating profit declined 1.2% to $698.5 million.
  • AutoZone expanded its footprint by opening 43 new stores in the U.S., 18 in Mexico, and three in Brazil. As of February 14, 2026, the company operated 6,709 stores in the U.S., 913 in Mexico, and 152 in Brazil, totaling 7,774 locations.
  • Inventory levels rose 13.1% year-over-year, influenced by expansion efforts and inflation. Net inventory per store at quarter-end was negative $105,000, compared to negative $161,000 a year ago.
  • Cash and cash equivalents stood at $285.5 million, up from $271.8 million as of August 30, 2025. Total debt increased to $8.9 billion from $8.79 billion over the same period.
  • During the quarter, AutoZone repurchased 85,000 shares for $310.8 million at an average price of $3,666 per share. The company had $1.4 billion remaining under its current share buyback authorization at quarter-end.
