US wine lists updated as tariffs drive up prices
Tariffs Prompt U.S. Hospitality Industry to Revamp Wine Selections
American hospitality businesses are adjusting their wine lists and retail offerings, opting for more affordable products in response to tariffs placed on imports from major alcohol-producing areas such as Europe, as reported by Reuters. Kristen Goceljak, a wine director, shared that restaurants managed by Kent Hospitality Group in New York have started removing popular champagne and Crémant labels that were previously menu mainstays. The U.S. government introduced a 15% tariff on numerous European imports in August 2025. Although the Supreme Court overturned many of these tariffs earlier this year, new trade measures have since taken their place.
