Although Wall Street recently reached new peaks, a significant risk may be going unnoticed: the United States could soon face a period without a definitive leader at the Federal Reserve. SriKonomics highlighted on March 21 that investors may soon be unsure about who is responsible for determining U.S. interest rates. Recent events have only heightened these worries. Jerome Powell’s tenure as Chair concludes on May 15, yet he remains a Board of Governors member until January 31, 2028. This means his leadership role does not automatically continue beyond May.
