Pundit Says You’re Not buying a XRP Price, But 100,000 Payments. Here’s the Meaning
RippleXity recently cited the payment capabilities of the XRP Ledger, stating that the value of XRP extends beyond its market price. The decentralized news platform said purchasing one XRP can process up to 100,000 payments rather than simply owning a digital asset.
The platform explained that a single XRP, based on the XRP Ledger’s standard base transaction fee, can cover approximately 100,000 transactions. It added that every transaction fee is permanently burned, gradually reducing XRP’s circulating supply over time.
RippleXity also noted that XRP activates an account on the ledger permanently and that transactions settle within three to five seconds at any time of day without banking hours or settlement cutoffs.
Community Discusses Transaction Fee Calculation
The post generated responses from members of the XRP community, with one user, identified as B, offering a different calculation. The commenter stated that one XRP would instead support 76,923 transactions, leaving one drop remaining, based on a transaction fee of 13 drops.
From a mathematical standpoint, the calculation is correct. One XRP consists of 1,000,000 drops, and dividing that amount by 13 results in 76,923 complete transactions with one drop left over.
The technical assumption behind the calculation, however, differs from the XRP Ledger’s standard operation. Under normal network conditions, the baseline transaction fee is 10 drops rather than 13. At that fee level, one XRP can cover up to 100,000 standard transactions with no remaining drops.
Transaction fees on the XRP Ledger are also dynamic. The network increases fees during periods of heavier activity to discourage spam, and certain transaction types require more than the standard fee. As a result, 13 drops may apply in specific situations, but it is not the network’s default transaction cost.
Another factor is the account reserve requirement. New XRP Ledger accounts must maintain a minimum reserve to remain active, meaning a newly activated wallet cannot spend its entire one XRP balance on transaction fees. RippleXity’s statement nevertheless refers to the network’s standard base fee rather than the spendable balance of a new account.
Community Highlights Long-Term Payment Capacity
While community members examined the details of transaction fees, the conversation ultimately emphasized the network’s ability to process large volumes of low-cost payments with fast settlement and continuous availability.
