Robinhood CEO believes prediction markets are entering a "supercycle"
Glonghui, February 11|A cautious attitude towards cryptocurrency trading dragged down Robinhood’s fourth-quarter revenue, and the company’s stock price also came under pressure on Tuesday. However, executives at this trading app downplayed the impact and spoke at length about the prospects of a “supercycle” in the prediction market, which allows users to bet on events such as sports and politics. Robinhood’s sales for the quarter were $1.28 billion, up 27% year-on-year. However, this figure fell short of FactSet’s expectation of $1.35 billion. Cryptocurrency trading revenue for the quarter declined by 38%. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said on the company’s earnings call: “We’re not distracted by short-term volatility or the movements of bitcoin or other assets.” He believes that the technology behind bitcoin will ultimately be used as the foundation for more transactions and other services. Tenev said he believes the current period marks the beginning of a “prediction market supercycle.” Last year, a Robinhood division related to derivatives launched a prediction market hub. Robinhood’s prediction market trading volume more than doubled in the fourth quarter, with over 12 billion contracts traded in 2025.
